To be a cosplayer is to be a fan – something that doesn’t differ from those who write fan-fiction or marathon their favorite show time and time again. As someone who enjoys cosplaying and attending cosplay conventions, I have seen how pop culture has grown and how much of an influence it has on simply dressing up.
Summer A has ended for FIU Students but Florida Summer is far from over. Supercon, the largest convention in South Florida is July 1-4 in the Miami Beach Convention Center. “This will be our 11th year” said Sara Mineo, communications coordinator on the Florida Supercon staff.
This year’s Florida Supercon is taking over the Miami Beach Convention Center Thursday, June 25 through Sunday, June 28. Considered the largest convention in South Florida, Supercon isn’t an event you want to miss.
Within the cosplay community, the degree of accuracy is staggering, with many feeling pressured to look exactly like their character. Meeting other’s expectations to fully capture that character’s essence can be intimidating.
