FIU earns enough points for $7.2 million in new funding

The Board of Governors released final funding recommendations to the Florida Legislature based on its performance model: FIU ranked in the top three and is eligible for $7,268,298 in new funding, according to a Feb. 14 memorandum from President Mark B. Rosenberg.




Student Government begins budget hearings

The Student Government Association will have budget hearings Feb. 6 and 7 with organizations seeking money from the activity and services fee — a $12.37 per credit hour charge that every student pays to the University. This year’s pot has not been determined yet, but last year’s reached $16.1 million.





Departments compromise for work study employees

Recently, the Federal Work Study Program has suffered cuts and departments, including FIU Libraries and the Recreation Center, have felt the impact. Before the 2012-2013 school year, FWS covered 100 percent of the awards; but, each department of the University will now have to contribute 25 percent of these awards from their own budgets.
