The University’s quick expansion has taken a toll on its cold water system.

One decade, many changes

Traffic lights, parking spaces, new buildings, more construction, incoming students— that’s what the University looks like in the next decade.

Eighth street to get upgrade

New changes are being implemented along southwest Eighth street between the Palmetto Expressway and the Florida Turnpike. Public Information Specialist Cynthia Vazquez stated, “The project is to enhance public safety.” The changes being implemented include the repaving of the roads in that area and changes to improve traffic lights and lanes. Additional bicycle lanes will also be added.

Construction, more than an eye sore

As most students have gone home for the summer, or simply decided to take a break, few have noticed that the construction projects begun during the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters is now in full swing.

University observatory construction underway

With a groundbreaking event on Feb. 21 and construction beginning in late March or early April of this year, the idea of University Physics Professor James Webb will become a reality through the creation of the Stocker AstroScience Center at the Modesto Maidique Campus.

Road closing due to dorm construction

University Way, or 113th avenue, will be closing today at 5 p.m. at the Modesto Maidique Campus to make way for the construction of the new Parkview dorms and parking garage.

Anthony Cave quoted an opponent of the second entrance, asking, “Why don’t you build it in your backyard?” The Beacon notes we are building it in our backyard. Another person, booing the proposal, asked, “What about our children?” Because the University, Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School and the David Lawrence K-8 Center all share only one entrance and one exit, the construction of a second pathway is not just more convenient, but does, indeed consider the safety of the children.
