Each year, the homecoming council at FIU puts together a week of events to try and get students more involved within the FIU community. The amount of effort it takes to put together the week of homecoming, as well as what happens behind the scenes, is what some FIU students might miss.
During homecoming week, the homecoming council promotes several events in order to get the student body engaged in college life.
Unlike past Rally 100 events, this year’s event, free for all FIU students, will bring together all clubs and organizations on campus. This Wednesday July 13, experience the Rally 100 at the housing quad.
The school’s annual Homecoming tradition brings a week-long list of activities for University students.
The University’s partnership with Miami’s largest non-profit organization, United Way, is launching this year’s campaign, with a goal of 200,000 dollars.
Emulating shows like “America’s Got Talent,” the University’s Panthers Got Talent is a competition for students, faculty and staff to showcase their various talents. The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, at the U.S. Century Bank Arena – doors open at 5:30 p.m.
University Chief of Police Alexander Casas is concerned over the heightened likelihood of MDMA use at future Homecoming concerts. While the presence of MDMA and other drugs is a concern for the University Police Department, Casas notes that in the previous year few drug-related arrests have been made.
As the University’s annual Panthermonium quickly approaches, the community gears up for this year’s concert and performers. As part of Homecoming Week, the Panthermonium event expects to draw in big crowds.
