A new era is set to launch for the men’s basketball squad with newly appointed head coach Richard Pitino at the helm. The former Louisville assistant coach has bold aspirations of revamping the philosophy of the program.
The streak is over. Five consecutive losses to Florida Atlantic dating back to 2009 ended on Feb. 4 at FAU Arena as the Panthers relied on a 13-2 run mid-way in the second half to defeat the Owls 76-56.
The Panthers were in desperate need of a conference win on Jan. 28 against Western Kentucky. FIU did not make the situation easy for themselves. Down as much as 15 points in the second half, the Panthers struggled for most of the game shooting from the field.

Dominic Ferguson’s career-high tying 20 points were not enough, as the Panthers were defeated by the Blue Raiders 70-59 on Jan. 12. In the press conference, Head Coach Isiah Thomas was almost at a lost for words.
The Panthers were engaged in another down to the wire finish against Bowling Green on Dec. 22.
The Terrapins rallied in the second half to defeat FIU 65-61 on Dec. 14, in College Park.
