Karla Kennedy served as a journalism teacher with Miami Dade County Public Schools for 17 years and moved on to earn her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 2011. More importantly, she is an advocate for student journalist rights.

As part of a grant from student tech fees, FIU's Glenn Hubert Library installed an EnergyPod by Metronaps in October 2017. After noticing impromptu naps in the library, they wanted to develop a space to rest comfortably and efficiently with a little help from technology.

Student organization’s revival to build presence of black student journalists

After being disbanded for a few years, the revival of the Association of Black Journalists on campus. The organization was founded two to three years ago, but disbanded once the original members graduated.
