Patrick Ford, a junior physics major and astronomy minor, and Mars One Project applicant will speak about the Red Planet in two different events next month.
On a night that marked the final game of the regular season for both teams, FIU (19-9, 10-6 SBC) swept Troy (16-14, 6-10) using explosive offense and exceptional defense.
On the heels of three Panther double-double performances, FIU beat Troy 3-1, (25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18) and extended their winning streak to four games. With the win, FIU remains perfect against Troy (14-10, 4-6 SBC), having won all 12 games against their program.
Despite having four turnovers in regulation, the Panthers were able to force the game into overtime and end it on a 22-yard field from Jack Griffin in a thrilling overtime victory over the Trojans on Oct. 25, to keep hopes of another conference title alive.
The historic start of the season for FIU has now quickly turned into desperation mode with a recent loss to Arkansas State, which now places FIU three games behind first place Louisiana with five games remaining on the season.
The Panthers now stand at 6-5 and extend their undefeated record in the SBC to 3-0 with the team gaining more chemistry as the season progresses.
