With a chance to start in the position where he began the season, sophomore Eric Reyes came up big for the FIU Panthers as they played the No. 25 University of Alabama Birmingham to a 0-0 draw on Oct. 29.
The FIU men’s soccer team had a late chance to steal one, but the rally fell short as South Carolina defeated the Golden Panthers 4-3.
The Hurricane pounded the Golden Panthers 4-1. Head coach Munga Eketebi was disappointed in his team’s performance.
The SMU Mustangs defeated the Golden Panthers 2-1 in overtime on Oct. 16.
FIU earned a draw against sixth-ranked Central Florida, 0-0 on Oct. 11.
The FIU men’s soccer team was shutout by the Tigers with a 3-0 score in a disappointing loss on Oct. 8 at Mike Rose Stadium.
The Marshall Thundering Herd dominated most the game in the passing lanes and possession and were able to beat the Golden Panthers 2-1 in double overtime on Sept. 23.
But FIU traveled to Atlanta only to fall to Georgia State in a 3-2 contest on Sept. 18.
FIU (2-2-2) went to their second extra time game only to tie the Jacksonville Dolphins (1-2-1) in a 1-1 contest. “This is a game we should have won. We have the better team and we are continuing to have problems finishing our opportunities,” said Coach Munga Eketebi after the frustrating tie on Sunday afternoon.
