Commuters face rising gas prices around both campuses

For students attending MMC, the Shell gas station on Southwest 8th Street charges $3.41 per gallon for regular gasoline, as compared to the BP station on Southwest 139th Avenue that charges $3.69 a gallon. A Chevron station located on Northeast 167th Street and Sixth Avenue has been spotted charging a price of $4.85 per gallon of regular gasoline, according to a report by the Miami Herald.



FIU Law comments on Stand Your Ground course

A Stand-Your-Ground course may be taught at the university’s law school, in light of the new course being offered at FAU that goes over the controversial law involved in the trial of George Zimmerman. students interested in furthering a discussion about Stand Your Ground can attend an upcoming Roundtable Discussion session discussing the Trayvon Martin Verdict, organized by the African & African Diaspora Studies Program on Sept. 13 in GC 150 at MMC.


FIU expands mentoring programs

Starting the week of Sept. 23, 2013, FIU will launch a two-part mentoring program that will pair students from Miami Northwestern High School with FIU faculty and staff: Fostering Panther Pride, intended for students who are or have been homeless or in the foster care system, and Golden Scholars Bridge Program, intended to help provisionally admitted students transition into college life.
