The weekend sweep marks FIU’s fifth straight home loss of the season. After a strong 3-0 strong in Conference USA play, the Panthers are now 4-5 and 18-17 overall for the season.
The win also put FIU at 18-14 for the season and 4-2 in Conference USA. Their next task will be at home, where the Panthers are undefeated in conference play
The sweep for the Panthers is the first sweep that FIU picked up against a Conference USA opponent since April 2014, when they swept North Texas in three games.
Kugelmann (2-0) struck out six and gave FIU an 8-0 victory. A.J Belans and Texeira both had 2 RBI’s in the win, which improved the Panthers to a 10-4 overall record.
The softball team improved to 8-2 for the season after dropping just one game on the weekend. The Panthers went 4-1 overall, winning two straight to end the weekend strong.
The team is not paying too much attention to the rankings, but with the season right around the corner, it will be some extra motivation to prove the naysayers wrong.
