Students using loans to pay for essentials
Approximately 39,000 students in the university received some type of financial aid to attend FIU, according to statistics from the Financial Aid Office. Senior Financial Aid Coordinator Fabiola Ortega said 30-35 percent of graduating students will be indebted. The average loan for an FIU student is between $15,000 to $20,000.
