Professional journalists discuss use of social media for news

On Friday, March 21, the University chapter for the Society of Professional Journalists held their first annual “Listen, Learn, Connect” conference. The first invited speakers included Lori Todd, a social media manager for the Sun Sentinel and the Orlando Sentinel and Jaqueline Charles, a Caribbean correspondent for the Miami Herald.


Journalists Unite! SPJ hosts event to educate, network

The SPJ panel, “Listen. Learn. Connect.” is one of the many events the School of Journalism and Mass Communication is hosting for Communications Week 2014. The panel will be held March 21 at Biscayne Bay Campus in the Wolfe University Center. The event will be in Room 244AB, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Eighth street to get upgrade

New changes are being implemented along southwest Eighth street between the Palmetto Expressway and the Florida Turnpike. Public Information Specialist Cynthia Vazquez stated, “The project is to enhance public safety.”

The changes being implemented include the repaving of the roads in that area and changes to improve traffic lights and lanes. Additional bicycle lanes will also be added.
