Texeira and Belans avoided being swept by University of Alabama at Birmingham on Sunday, April 17, as they both provided home runs for the Panthers in the 11-3 win.
The sweep also marks FIU’s first road sweep of a conference opponent since 2014 when they did so against Southern Miss.
The weekend sweep marks FIU’s fifth straight home loss of the season. After a strong 3-0 strong in Conference USA play, the Panthers are now 4-5 and 18-17 overall for the season.
The win also put FIU at 18-14 for the season and 4-2 in Conference USA. Their next task will be at home, where the Panthers are undefeated in conference play
Kugelmann (2-0) struck out six and gave FIU an 8-0 victory. A.J Belans and Texeira both had 2 RBI’s in the win, which improved the Panthers to a 10-4 overall record.
The Panthers started off the FIU invitational with a doubleheader, and despite the heavy wind each team faced, FIU landed two consecutive wins against Holy Cross (0-5) and Indiana (5-4).
The softball team improved to 8-2 for the season after dropping just one game on the weekend. The Panthers went 4-1 overall, winning two straight to end the weekend strong.
The Panthers went 4-1 overall, only dropping their first game to the 10th ranked Florida State University Seminoles.
