While they couldn’t get the sweep, there could be a great deal of positive momentum drawn from taking two games from this FAU team and it might be exactly what the Panthers need going forward to finish off the season.
While FIU is still batting .310 as a team, their pitching has only gotten worse since the start of the season with a current team ERA of 4.69. They’re dropping in the C-USA standings and fast.
Over the weekend, Head Coach Turtle Thomas said, “Marshall is a very good team, they’ve been hot lately…the last few games, they’ve been on absolute fire.”
Three more runs would eventually come across for the 49ers before all was said and done, and FIU would miss their shot at winning the first C-USA series of the season.
The Panthers’ milkshake menu features returning right-handers Andres Nunez, Williams Durruthy, Cody Crouse, Robby Kalaf, Garrett Cave, and Chris Mourelle. They’ll also be bringing back the left-hander, Dominic Lobrutto.
The question is, can this new, fun and exciting option fill the hole left in the belly of the Panthers, now that they’ve lost their fish? Or will the gimmick of a couple junior college transfers fall short of satisfying the FIU faithful, and their winning tastes, alike?
This season looks to be a tough one for FIU, with the rest of the conference looking to dethrone the defending Conference USA champs, and the Panthers not being as poised to defend their crown as one would hope.
