New initiative to show the history of Cuba’s exiles

The University will be starting a new initiative named CasaCuba that will encompass all things Cuban.

The University would like to bring their varying Cuban collections into one centralized area for scholars and the public to see. Cubans, Cuban-Americans and non-Cubans will have a place to admire the history of the people and their search for freedom, according to documents provided to Panther Magazine by CasaCuba.



CAPS equipped to help students face culture shock

Despite popular belief, culture shock does not always involve traveling from one country to another, according to Dr. Kathryn Kominars, a licensed psychologist and associate director for Counseling & Psychological Services.


Chad Moss donates $10 million to FIU

Chad Moss, executive vice president of Moss & Associates, a privately-held construction firm based in Fort Lauderdale, announced in April during the annual Torch Award Gala that he would be donating $10 million to the College of Engineering & Computing, making it the largest donation ever made by an alumnus to the university, officials said.




U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos visits University as students hold protest

On Thursday, April 6, faculty and students met with U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and President Mark B. Rosenberg at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences for a roundtable discussion on the current and future state of education while student protesters voiced their opposition outside the Academic Health Center 3 building where the discussion was held.



Student Conduct Committee applications now open

The Student Conduct Committee is currently in need of students who can become part of FIU’s hearing body to “promote integrity, ethics, and be able to make decisions that promote education, accountability, and community well-being,” said Amanda Torres, one of the assistant directors of the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.
