Erasing climate change is out of touch with reality

Governor Ron DeSantis continues to surprise Florida with how asinine he can be by twisting the law to fit his political agenda. Erasing important terminology from state laws neglects the reality we’re living in.

On May 15 DeSantis signed HB 1645 into law which removes the term “climate change” from state statutes to make it less of a priority when making state energy policies.

Making climate change less of a priority to affordability and availability is neglectful to a bigger issue. This is a problematic principle held by conservatives who believe the planet isn’t dying. Ironically, this law is being passed in the midst of a heat wave

Scientists, researchers and others are considered conspiracy theorists despite their endless studies being conducted that prove the existence of climate change.

DeSantis’ decision will only result in the real issue continuing to be ignored. More effort to protect the policies that help the environment and humanity that depend on nature for resources and study the creatures that inhabit it should be made.

DeSantis’s recent retweet about climate change goes to show how he can weaponize his incompetence to gloat that he is responsible for “solving” issues that he is in denial about.

DeSantis’ attempt to convince Floridians that everything is fine when it’s not is nothing new. This hidden message is beyond delusional but it highlights a very obvious pattern in DeSantis’s policy-making.

DeSantis passed a law in April that banned businesses from providing water and shade breaks for outdoor workers.

The reality is that outdoor workers are immigrants and family members who aren’t able to handle the weather throughout their entire shift – it’s only natural to feel like you’re melting in extreme heat.

This tiring political style is making it easier and easier to tell that DeSantis doesn’t care about the general welfare of his constituents.

Each policy DeSantis implements is him building ammo for talking points should he choose to run for president in 2028 – given his last attempt, it would be a disaster.

He’s so desperate for this chance to run the country that he’s willing to hurt the people he’s supposed to protect.

What he keeps forgetting is that fear mongering isn’t going to last forever. We have the power to not re-elect or support his policies if we don’t see it as fair and just.

DeSantis may be triumphant in making these policies into law, but at what cost? We can’t ignore the harrowing effects climate change has on us and we have to hold our governor accountable.
