FIU awarded grant to train young African leaders

Twenty-five young African leaders from sub-Saharan nations will visit the University this summer in a public management program as part of the Young African Leaders Initiative that received a $100,000 grant from the Washington Fellowship.



FIU Law comments on Stand Your Ground course

A Stand-Your-Ground course may be taught at the university’s law school, in light of the new course being offered at FAU that goes over the controversial law involved in the trial of George Zimmerman. students interested in furthering a discussion about Stand Your Ground can attend an upcoming Roundtable Discussion session discussing the Trayvon Martin Verdict, organized by the African & African Diaspora Studies Program on Sept. 13 in GC 150 at MMC.


LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Resident life department needs reform

Residential Life is the least supervised and most isolated department at FIU. I think it is due to the inherent structure built on the need to satisfy appearances and juggle liabilities. It has become the department where the least amount of necessary information goes up the ladder of superiors. The current Housing and Residential Life department is now lacking in spirit, progression and dynamic.


Wellness Cooking Demonstration at Bay Vista Housing

Residential Life in collaboration with the Wellness Center is hosting the “Wellness Cooking Demonstration,” an event that showcases several student presentations that demonstrate how to make healthy meals.



Knock-Knock program brings faculty to students’ dorms

The Bay Vista dorms are always having something fun and creative for the students that live in the dorms to do, whether it’s making cupcakes or having a game day. On August 25, 2011 the campus and residential life hosted their annual Knock-Knock program, where different faculty and staff members knocked on student’s doors to see how they are adjusting to their dorms and life on campus.
