After managing to hold a 5-2 lead against the seventh ranked team in the nation, the Panthers squandered eight consecutive runs to lose game one of their double-header.
With the Panthers splitting their double header against North Texas on Saturday, FIU was able to win the rubber game of a three-game series against the Mean Green – this time in an extra-inning affair.
With FIU playing their worst ball thus far this season losing their past four games being outscored 31 to 8 during the DeMarini Invitational. Their luck would change however in their last game of the invitational as FIU beat Oregon State 4-1.
After starting day two of the DeMarini Invitational with a loss against Indiana FIU looked for a win against Stanford but instead where handed their worst loss of the season thus far falling to the Cardinals 10-0.
The Panthers dropped three games out of four over the weekend in Boca Raton. The team combined to score seven runs in four games during the Strike Out Cancer Tournament, also known as the FAU Invitational.
FIU finished the FAU Invitational 1-3 and left with an even .500 record of 7-7.
After starting the year off at 1-4 FIU (6-4) has flipped the switch and have won four straight contests, going undefeated in the Blue and Gold Felsberg Memorial.
On the final day of the COMBAT Classic, the Panthers were looking for their first win of the year and they found it as they beat Illinois with a lofty 8-0 score.
Mariah Dawson, who pitched just the day before, started again on Sunday. But unlike her first start of the year, she didn’t have her best stuff. Dawson battled through and kept Illinois off the board the entire day.
The Golden Panthers (21-17) softball team split the first two games of a three-game series with the No. 19 Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (28-5) on April 6.
On April 6, the Golden Panthers will take on the current three-time champions in Lafayette in a three-game series. The series will have major implications in conference tournament seeding.
