Winter is here!

With a much anticipated season, will Game of Thrones meet expectations or disappoint?

After waiting for almost a year, the season six premiere of “Game Of Thrones” has finally arrived. The much anticipated show’s ratings broke yet another record, having the most views than all of the previous seasons combined.

Having a “Game of Thrones” week in the GC Pit made the event even more exciting and the wait even tougher to bear. The event consisted of photo booths, learning about the time period in which “Game of Thrones” is set, getting to choose a flag from the different houses, sitting  on the iron throne and to wrap it all up, a watch party for the first episode of the new season.

Being a GoT fan, the excitement of the premiere episode was agonizing but the events that  were held throughout the whole week in the GC Pit made it more bearable. Being able to share something I’m interested in and getting to compare stories, characters and favorite scenes with the FIU community made this whole experience even better. For those who have not seen it, you’re missing out. I’m sorry to say but explaining it does not do it any justice, plus it’s very hard to explain in the first place!

It was for certain that the unresolved story-lines of the main characters were going to be shown in the premiere. Just by knowing the title of the first episode, “The Red Woman,” viewers were already given an idea of what the episode was centered around but what we did not expect were the eye-opening scenes that took our breath away.

The episode was centered in Jon Snow who was killed by the men from the Night’s Watch, our beloved Mother of Dragons and what happened after she fled in the back of her dragon Drogon, the outcome was for Sansa Stark, who fled from her abusive husband, as well as her sister Arya who the last time we saw was blinded by the Faceless God.

Even though the first episode touched upon where our favorite characters are, there are still unanswered questions; out of all the stories, the one every single viewer was interested in was our beloved Jon Snow’s fate.

Last time we saw him, he had been betrayed and stabbed by men from the Night’s Watch, left to die in the snow. Now, we know that the Red Lady has magical powers that have allowed her to perform unimaginable things, from giving birth to a shadow, to defeating armies with the help of the Lord of Light; the question that still lingers is: Will she be able to bring Jon Snow back or will that be the last of him?

If you are interested in immersing yourself in the wonderful world of “Game of Thrones”, you can do so by watching the seasons from the beginning on the HBO website. Season six of Game of Thrones airs every Sunday on HBO at 9 p.m.
