Environmental Sciences major and 2nd Year Graduate Student Masters of Science, David Riera has been nominated for the Outstanding Leadership/Service Award, “This awesome, I can not express my gratitude enough through words. But I will borrow Henry David Thoreau’s words…
As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.
My life has not and I believe it will not get any easier… So I have to walk and think harder, to become faster, stronger, wiser…Not for me but for those that I serve and will continue to serve…my family, my friends, my students, fellow veteran, and my community.
It is a great honor and absolutely a great way to start the challenges of doctoral studies in the College of Education.”

I have been involved in philanthropy and Greek life all while sharing my enthusiasm of panther pride to incoming students. With that being said, I believe that my personal goal of giving back has been achieved. I am eternally grateful to FIU because it has provided me with the tools I need to succeed in life. I have already seen the reflection of my preparation when I landed an internship at a Fortune 500 company. To my involvements, to my past advisors, to the students I’ve met and to FIU, I say thank you.”

When you walk on campus and you can see many people willing to help students with potential, you never feel alone.
Ever since transferring and FIU is supporting me through curricular and extracurricular activities. Now where I am standing and everything I have accomplished so far as a future pediatric cardiologist surgeon of shadowing, research, volunteering, tutoring, and leadership for or on behalf of our panther community is thanks to FIU and FIU Honors College.
