As civil rights advocates, we should reject the framing of the DADT repeal as a wholesale pro-civil rights issue. Nothing is more damning of civil rights than the institution of war — and repealing DADT changed nothing about that.
I am nostalgic for a bygone era.
I do not mean that I miss the 1960s and the great music that came from it, or the 1950s and the fact that the American dream was not yet saddled with debt. I am specifically nostalgic for the era that spans from the late 1940s to the late 1980s and early 1990s. I miss the Cold War.
