Now the question is why didn’t Leonard, a two time first team All-Conference USA selection as a cornerback and return specialist, get invited?
It’s going to be a busy day for FIU head coach Ron Turner. Right now FIU’s football team currently has 22 verbal commits in the recruiting class of 2016 and four players have already enrolled this semester.
“We’re thrilled that both Luis and Jeremiah have this opportunity to take part in this event,” Head Coach Ron Turner said. “Both have been important to this program and it’s great that they have another chance to showcase their skills.”
Where do the Panthers go from here? Well there are some positives and negatives sides as they begin their off-season.
After getting embarrassed by Marshall University 52-0 just a week prior, the Panthers’ loss margin actually increased against WKU. FIU (5-7, 3-5) got demolished by the Hilltoppers (9-2, 7-0) in a 63-7 blowout.
For the Panthers, this is their final chance at making a bowl game. If the Panthers can use that extra motivation to fuel their play against WKU, an upset is very possible.
The Panthers (4-5, 2-3) return home this Saturday, Nov. 7, to play a University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers team (2-6, 0-5) that is still searching for their first win in Conference USA.
Even though I actually picked FIU to lose in my column last week, I still feel horrible about this loss as somebody who watches this team each and every week.
Prior to this weekend, they were an improving team looking to be above .500 with what many thought was a realistic shot to compete in Conference USA.
