Five must-haves for a great homecoming

LaJayah Blain/ Contributing Writer

Homecoming is a celebration of tradition, comradery and new beginnings.

Homecoming is our time to celebrate FIU, show our school spirit and get ready for what the bright new school year has to offer for us returning students and newcomers.

Homecoming is a week full of explosive school spirit events ranging from the courting of kings and queens to the Panthermonium concert featuring Miguel and Rich the Kid. No matter how you decide to spread your school spirit make sure to check these 5 things off of your homecoming checklist because they are essential for having a phenomenal homecoming:

1. SPIRIT SQUAD: One of homecoming’s main purposes is to bring the student body together. Therefore, it is essential to put together your ideal group of friends. The more the merrier! Grab your girls and gather your guys because homecoming is going to be a week full of fun times.

2. SCHOOL SPIRIT: We can’t forget to celebrate our astounding university. The place where bright minds come together. FIU deserves a roaring round of applause. Homecoming is the perfect time to bring out your panther paws and show your Panther Pride.

3. A CAMERA: Homecoming week is going to be full of memories that will last a lifetime. These days are going to turn into the stories we tell our kids and grandkids one day. With that being said, you want to make sure you document every momentous moment.

4. SOCIAL MEDIA: Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, LinkedIn and every social media site known to man should be flooded with blue and gold. Not only do we want you to spread your Panther Pride across the interweb, but social media is the best way to stay
connected with events and any incoming information from our hard-working staff.

5. A PLAN: Homecoming week at FIU is full of events, so be prepared for your calendars to be flooded. It’s easy to get lost in the commotion. Your best bet is to visit the Student Affairs website and make a plan. Choose the events you want to attend and write them down. Set reminders on your phone so that you’re alerted when the next celebration begins.

No matter which school spirit events you decide to involve yourself in; make sure you have fun, stay safe, and most important: keep living your most lavish life.
