Building the wall has many benefits

By Ashley Verdugo/Staff Writer

Here’s what no one is talking about. The wall will benefit both America and Mexico.

We’re almost 30 days into the record breaking partial government shutdown and neither side of the political aisle is willing to cave on their word. Currently, tens of thousands non essential government employees are having their pay furloughed and there is no indication as to when the government will make a final decision on the budget.

Here’s a quick recap: President Trump is asking for $5.7 billion in order to build the wall across the border.

Democrat Majority Leader, Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer, refuse to approve this add on to the budget and therefore the government has shut down until both congress and the president come to an agreement.

$5.7 billion dollars may sound like a lot of for a wall, but it will only cost 10% of the budget.

The migrant caravan brought thousands of immigrants from Honduras and Guatemala all the way to Mexico in order to cross the border into the U.S. This did not make the people of Mexico very happy.

Mexican authorities were trying to limit the amount of people coming in, but to no avail. Border security on San Diego beach had to be doubled and reinforced due to the violence that was being caused.

The people of Mexico had a march in protest of the caravan claiming that the people it brought were ungrateful, causing problems and disrupting the everyday lives of the Mexican people.

The Mexican government had to shift its focus to controlling the caravan rather than helping the Mexican people.

But Pelosi and Schumer don’t pay attention to this.

They’ve both built this “moral high ground” that refuses to listen to concerns from the American people and the Mexican people.

If Pelosi and Schumer are so concerned with a wall being immoral, why haven’t they spoken with Mexico?

Before U.S. Border Patrol is affected by the influx of immigrants coming over, Mexico is.

During the migrant caravan protest the Mayor of Tijuana, Juan Manuel Gastélum Buenrostro, was photographed wearing a “Make Tijuana Great Again” red baseball cap as a nod to President Trump.

Pelosi and Schumer have already set aside the needs of the American people by refusing to fund the wall.

So if they’re going to try and make things “morally good” for immigrants, why don’t they actually speak with the Mexican people, hear their concerns about the caravan and get off their “moral high ground.”
