Water to be shut down in Graham Center

By: Nicole Stone/Assistant News Director

Due to maintenance and repairs on the building’s plumbing, the Graham Center will see a full water shut down Tuesday, May 1 through Wednesday, May 2.

According to an email sent to Student Media by Carlos Carrasco, the Director of Administrative services, the shutdown is needed in order to address failing water pumps and valves installed in 1991, when GC was expanded to include the ballroom and Faculty Club.

“From time to time, we can expect other water pumps and valves that are over 25 years old to outlive their useful life, and will be in need of replacement,” Carrasco wrote.

Additionally, Carrasco said, University operations will not be affected as the maintenance was scheduled to be conducted overnight. The shutdown will begin at 10 p.m on May 1 and will be lifted the next morning at 5 am.

“Luckily, the repairs scheduled for tonight will not impact the Graham Center building operations, as there are no events or classes taking place, nor are food service or office operations affected at this time of day,” Carrasco said.

An email informing faculty and staff utilizing the building of the planned maintenance was sent out so that they may plan accordingly. This includes but is not limited to Ricoh printing services, the bookstore, and the hair salon.
