The FIU Police Department has arrested academic advisor Terrence Wilson for resisting an officer without violence to his person.

According to an arrest affidavit, police responded to a report that Wilson was allegedly at the Graham Center taking pictures with his cell phone of another man using the bathroom in the adjacent stall on Sept. 30. Wilson, who works in the Honors College, was later identified as the suspect after a witness followed him.

The police report stated that while Wilson was on his way to a parking garage, police officers approached him and told him why they were there. Police said while talking with Wilson he was going through his phone, which prompted the officers to attempt to confiscate it to prevent potential evidence from being destroyed.

Wilson responded to the police trying to grab his phone, saying “No, I have nude photos of myself in there,” according to the report.

Wilson reportedly attempted to walk away from the officers and after a struggle, he was taking to custody.

Madeline Baró, associate director of Media Relations, confirmed Wilson’s position to Student Media, saying that he was placed on administrative leave when the investigation began.

The process to terminate [Wilson] is under way and should be complete in the coming week. The legal process will proceed independently,” Baró said in a statement sent to Student Media.

Since his arrest, Wilson has bonded out of jail.

FIUSM will update as the story develops.
