Today, the FIU community will celebrate Moses Shumow’s life, a journalism professor that passed last Tuesday after getting hit by a train while riding his bike in Beverly, Massachusetts.

“I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life until I met him. And I was like, ‘I want to do what that guy does.’ He left a really impactful legacy here,” said Anabelle Torres, the General Manager of The Roar, FIU’s student-run radio station.

During Shumow’s career, he also created documentaries for the Discovery Channel, PBS and National Geographic. He was also known for being a voice for marginalized communities, including projects that brought attention to gentrification in Liberty City.

The memorial will be from 3-5 p.m. in the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus WUC Ballrooms.

All members of the community are invited to attend.
