Along with her teammates and coaches, Ruele credits most of her success to her family. Specifically, her mother, who Naomi says, “sacrificed so much for me. I am so grateful for her and everything she has given me. And my brother who always supports me.”
Ruele has the chance to finally represent herself in her first Olympic competition and FIU is proud to have such talent.

Overall, the University brought home seven wins of the 12 events, coupled with seven second place finishes.
The difficulty in this season’s schedule not only lies in the talent faced, but also in the number of meets, with three more this season than last. The 2015-2016 regular season will last at least another week longer than it did in 2014-2015, as well.
As Head Coach Randy Horner and his swimming and diving team prepare to bounce back from their first loss of the season, coming against the University of Illinois at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center, there isn’t a single moment of down-time.
The Fighting Illini from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be making the 1,300 mile trip to the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
FIU won the C-USA Title last season, in an amazing run led by Johanna Gustafsdottir, last year’s FIU Female Athlete of the Year. Gustafsdottir was one of many dominant swimmers and divers here at the University.
With as much returning talent as FIU has, this goal is seemingly easier to achieve.
