Coley signed by WNBA’s New York Liberty

It may not have been the way many would have expected, but despite being overlooked in the 2014 WNBA Draft, FIU’s leading scorer has a new home.

Former standout Jerica Coley has signed with the New York Liberty on April 25.

Coley, a 5-8 guard, led the nation in scoring with 29.4 points per game in her senior year.

During her tenure at FIU, she averaged 23.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

Former men’s star Tymell Murphy spent time with Coley on and off the court and has high respect for the former Panther.

“She will do great at whatever the team needs,” said Murphy. “I’m extremely happy and will watch more WNBA for Jerica Coley.”

Coley began training camp with the Liberty April 27.

The Liberty begin the preseason Sunday May 4 against the Connecticut Sun and will tip off the regular season May 16 against the Sun once again.
