The FIU women’s soccer team took on the Nicholls State Colonels on Sunday, August 20, 2023 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Coming off of the heels of a 6-0 victory against Alcorn State University on Friday, the team looked to build momentum coming out of this match.

Picking up where they left off, the Panthers continued their domination after their win in the first game of the season. Two different Panthers each scored a pair of goals, totaling four out of the seven goals scored.

Starting off the scoring was sophomore Noemi Paquin who snuck one past the NSU goalkeeper on her corner kick in the sixth minute.

FIU kept their foot on the gas as junior Nikole Solis would fire two goals back-to-back in the 23rd and 32nd minute.

Less than a minute later sophomore Kim Schneider capped off the scoring for the first half with a goal in the 33rd minute, making the score 4-0.

To start the second half, the Panthers got right back into the scoring column with two consecutive goals from junior Izelle Barriere on a free kick and a penalty kick. This bolstered FIU’s lead to 6-0, making any comeback attempt almost insurmountable.

The defense and goalkeeping from FIU held strong all game, led by graduate student Ithaisa Vinoly in net. She totaled three saves on the three shots on goal, preventing every chance of the Colonels scoring.

Even after building such a substantial lead, the Panthers still weren’t done scoring. Sophomore Kennedy Floyd gave FIU their final point of the game, coming through a penalty kick, resulting in a 7-0 shutout victory for FIU.

With two games under the Panthers’ belt, they hold a perfect 2-0 record to start the season. They look to carry their newfound dominance into their next matchup against Jacksonville University on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at FIU Soccer Stadium.

The game begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
