FIU Softball Extends Losing Streak to Five With Losses to Florida State

The FIU Softball team (15-17) extends their losing streak to five after losing a pair of games to the Florida State Seminoles this past Saturday.

Game one saw the Panthers suffer a shutout loss to the Seminoles by a score of 7-0. The first two innings were scoreless, but the Noles took lead of the game at the top of the third when they managed to score a run.

The Noles scored five RBIs in the top of the fourth, followed by another run in the top of the sixth, while the Panthers weren’t able to score any runs. 

The Panthers only managed to have two singles, with hits from first baseman Kayla Whitehead, and outfielder Brooke McCann

In game two, FIU struggled on offense but did manage to put up one run in the 6-1 loss.

The Noles scored two runs in the top of the third inning, and quickly doubled their score during the top of the fourth, making it 4-0/

Outfielder Alyssa Laboy scored FIU’s first and only run of the weekend, after Whitehead led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple to right.

FSU added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to make it a five-run lead.

The game concluded with a 6-1 score.

The Panthers dropped their record to 15-17 overall, and now are on a five game losing streak. 

The FIU Softball team will hit the road to compete in Bowling Green for a three-game weekend facing the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, which will begin on Friday, April 1 at 7pm.
