Our university is like its own city, with a diverse set of members, including veterans, which is why Student Media decided to dedicate this week’s theme pages to our country’s heroes.

Veterans Day is coming up and throughout our magazine you’ll find various veteran-themed content such as the basketball tournament that was held to raise money for the University’s Veteran and Military Affairs program or our profile on the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for the Student Government Council at the Modesto Maidique campus.

Members of the Students Veterans of America at FIU also sat down with one of our assistants to discuss the different misconceptions people sometimes have about veterans. Visit page 4 to check it out.

Our columnists also discuss why it’s important to remember the true meaning of Veterans Day and the different struggles they sometimes face. One of our columnists also discusses the National Defense Authorization Act President Donald Trump recently signed to support veterans. To read these columns, visit pages 9 and 10.

In other parts of the magazine, you’ll find our update regarding the comic book and shell game scams targeting students at the Modesto Maidique campus, along with some new SGC-MMC updates. SGC-MMC has a new vice president, for example, and the head of SGC-MMC’s Internal Affairs has been fired. You can read all about it on pages 2 and 3.

And, for those looking for a Greek Life-centered story, look no further than page 2, where our News Director finds out about the “tombstones” the National Panhellenic Council has on campus.

Sport lovers will want to turn to page 12 to find out our recap of the 17th annual Shula Bowl. This year, the Panthers faced off against Florida Atlantic University’s Owls.

And, for our movie-lovers out there, you can watch our video interview Entertainment Director did with actor and director Tyler Perry on his new film “Nobody’s Fool.”
